Changes to the NY State Massage Licensing Exam: What You Need to Know

We want to inform you about important changes coming to the New York State massage licensing examination. Starting March 7, 2025, the exam will follow a new blueprint that includes significant updates to its structure.

Key Changes to the Exam Structure

The new examination consists of 140 total questions, with the following breakdown:

  • Assessment & Evaluation: 15% (21 questions)
  • Development of a Treatment Plan: 27% (37 questions)
  • Application of Treatment Skills: 28% (39 questions)
  • Treatment of Clients Affected by Specific Conditions: 16% (23 questions)
  • Professional Responsibilities, Business Practice, and Professional Ethics: 14% (20 questions)

The most significant change is the increased emphasis on Professional Responsibilities, Business Practice, and Professional Ethics, which has expanded from 6% to 14% of the exam.

Important Note About Your Curriculum: If you are a student at The Institute for Holistic Health, rest assured that our current curriculum, including our Professional Development and Ethics prerequisite course, already thoroughly covers all these areas. These changes will not affect our course content or structure, as we always maintain comprehensive coverage of all exam topics.
